Updating the Cuban Retro Park: New "Moskvich" Cars to Be Sent to Cuba for Taxi Service

To launch the taxi fleet, the Moscow authorities will send 50 cars to the republic

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced the start of taxi services based on "Moskvich" cars in Cuba. As part of cooperation with the republic, it is planned to launch a taxi fleet consisting of cars produced in the Russian capital.

We have started working on joint projects with the Republic of Cuba, including the launch of taxis based on "Moskvich" cars.
Sergei Sobyanin, Mayor of Moscow

To launch the taxi fleet, the city authorities plan to supply 50 cars to the country. In the future, it is possible to increase the number of vehicles.

Cuba has the largest and continuously operating park of retro cars in the world. Until 1959, Cuba was a major exporter of goods from the United States, including new models of Chevrolet, Ford, Cadillac, Dodge, Buick, and Chrysler. These cars were supplied from American factories to southern ports, and then delivered to the capital of the "island of freedom" — Havana. After the revolution, the Cuban authorities banned the import of foreign cars and spare parts for them (with the exception of rare batches of cars from the USSR). The only cars that Cubans could legally own were those produced and purchased before 1959.
