Footage of an aerial encounter between a rare Russian training aircraft Tu-134UBL and an American multi-role fighter F-16 has appeared online. The video was published by the Telegram channel Fighterbomber.
The author of the publication suggested that the "American" was performing a procedure of visual identification and escort of the Tu-134UBL.
The Tu-134UBL is a training aircraft developed by the Tupolev Design Bureau in the early 1980s on the basis of the Tu-134 passenger airliner. The aircraft is distinguished by a special design of the nose of the fuselage, similar to the Tu-22M and Tu-160 bombers.
The model is used in the Russian Air Force to train cadets to fly the Tu-22M3 and Tu-160, as well as to maintain the skills of line pilots, in order to reduce the consumption of flight resources of combat aircraft.
The Tu-134UBL model is called the "Black Pearl", but because of its sharp nose, the military also nicknamed the aircraft "Buratino".
