Obukhov Plant Supplied Hydraulic Cylinders for the New Smolensky Bridge in St. Petersburg

As part of import substitution, the enterprise will manufacture eight cylinders for an important infrastructure project

The Obukhov Plant has successfully delivered the first two hydraulic cylinders for the construction of the Bolshoi Smolensky Bridge in St. Petersburg.

It was planned to use Italian equipment, but the plant's proposal to create domestic mechanisms was approved by the city government. The decision was made possible thanks to the successful experience of the plant, which in 2023 manufactured eight cylinders for the reconstruction of the Birzhevoy Bridge.

Given our accumulated experience, the city entrusted the plant with the production of mechanisms for the new transport artery in the Nevsky district of St. Petersburg. By Victory Day, all eight hydraulic cylinders will be handed over to the customer.

According to him, the company's capacities are involved in the implementation of large infrastructure projects.

The Chairman of the Committee for Industrial Policy, Innovation and Trade of St. Petersburg, Alexander Sitov, called this work an example of successful import substitution. According to him, a very complex structure was made in eight months.

In addition to hydraulic cylinders, the plant will manufacture bridge span rotation axles, bearing housings, supports and frames. The Bolshoi Smolensky Bridge will be the first new drawbridge in St. Petersburg in the last 40 years. It will be located between the Volodarsky and Alexander Nevsky bridges, filling a gap in the city's infrastructure.

The previous drawbridge, Kantemirovsky, was opened in 1982.
