A new cargo drone has been developed and tested at Innopolis University. This was reported by the university's press service.
The drone's cruising speed is 15 m/s, and its weight is 10 kg. The flight range is up to 17 km, and the carrying capacity is 4 kg.
The drone has successfully passed the tests. It transported documents from the IT university site to the main building, and on the way back - food and drinks from the university cafe. The cargo was transported in a special container. The flight took 4 minutes, during which time the drone flew 2 km.
So far, this is a closed system for university employees, but the project is promising - closer to the summer we plan to launch automated delivery throughout the city.
The drone flies autonomously, but the landing and take-off of the drone is controlled by the operator. To simplify drone control, a Telegram bot was created. In it, you can call a drone, and then it flies along a predetermined route. The cargo container is dropped automatically.
