One of the most striking examples of modernization in the history of the Soviet automotive industry was the legendary ZIL‑130, which replaced the ZIL‑164A truck.
The ZIL‑130 not only significantly increased payload capacity with a negligible increase in weight, but also drastically improved ergonomics for the driver. The vehicle became the first at the Moscow Automobile Plant to be equipped with power steering.
Telescopic shock absorbers, which replaced the outdated lever-type ones, appeared on the ZIL‑164. The ZIL‑130 cab became noticeably more spacious, with an improved ventilation system and a panoramic windshield.
The car gained in dynamics, acquired a comfortable and more modern cab with improved visibility. But most importantly, the ZIL‑130 proved to be significantly more durable and reliable than its predecessor. And for transport workers, this was a key advantage.
