Russian transport companies are considering an initiative to introduce a "cooling-off period." The implementation of the initiative will allow passengers to cancel train and plane tickets without additional penalties. The corresponding proposal has been sent by the Ministry of Transport of Russia to Russian Railways and the Association of Air Transport Operators (AATO) for evaluation.
Russian carriers may introduce a "cooling-off period" for passengers, allowing them to cancel or rebook train and plane tickets free of charge within a certain time after purchase.
However, experts express concerns about possible abuses by ticket resellers. The introduction of such a period may lead to an increase in the number of returns one or two days before the departure date. This may cause ticket prices to rise for all passengers.
Current rules allow passengers to correct up to two errors in tickets free of charge. If this limit is exceeded, a fee must be paid for the changes. The introduction of a "cooling-off period" could be a significant step towards improving service for passengers, but requires careful consideration of the mechanisms for its implementation.
