Специалисты СКБ-3 KMZ разработали технологию отливки грибовидных якорей

The new gating system avoids metal overheating and eliminates casting defects

SKB-3 KMZ specialists have developed a technology for casting mushroom anchors, which have been used since the mid-19th century for long-term and reliable anchoring of ships and floating lighthouses.

Anchors of this shape are particularly in demand in areas with strong tidal currents or powerful winds.

For their casting, process engineers created a special gating system consisting of multiple feeders with a small cross-sectional area.

When casting such products, a defect known as "hot cracking" often occurs, which appears due to overheating of the metal by the gating system. However, the solution proposed by SKB-3 specialists avoided overheating and produced castings of the required quality without defects.
