As part of a program to protect customers from fraudsters, VTB Bank has integrated a function into its application to confirm financial transactions using selfies. This was reported by the bank's press service.
VTB has launched a new tool to protect against fraudsters: biometric confirmation of transactions in the VTB Online mobile application.
Owners of Android-based devices can now confirm transfers, payments, and other transactions using facial recognition technology via photographs. In the near future, this function may become mandatory for certain operations, which will help prevent unauthorized actions in the personal account.
Since the end of February, more than 1.9 million customers have been able to use the new function. To access this service, it is necessary to submit biometric data to the Unified Biometric System. This can be done at bank branches or through the "Gosuslugi: Biometrics" application.
In April, the web version of VTB Online should also have a function for confirming financial transactions via selfie, said Nikita Chugunov, Head of the Digital Business Department, Senior Vice President of VTB.
Earlier, VTB Head Andrei Kostin stated that Russian banks can function without the international SWIFT system, as this platform does not provide reliable service to credit organizations.
