Rosatom specialists have performed a test run of four electric motors of the main circulation pumps (GCPAs) at the Akkuyu NPP, the station's press service reported.
The smooth operation of the GCPAs ensures the safety and functioning of the Akkuyu NPP.
We recently wrote that many consider the reactor to be the "heart" of a nuclear power plant. However, if we take the analogy to its conclusion, then the GCPAs are responsible for pumping "blood" in the "arteries" – the water-coolant in the main circulation pipeline.
The height of each pump is 3.5 meters, the width is 3 meters, and the weight is 31 tons. Each power unit has 4 GCPAs.
The pump is capable of pumping 22,000 cubic meters of water per hour, heated to 300°C. This volume is equal to 10 Olympic swimming pools.
The GCPAs at Akkuyu NPP belong to the latest generation of NPP equipment with VVER-1200 reactors. Water, not oil, is used to lubricate and cool the pump and electric motor components.
The main procedure for testing pumps is starting and running the electric motors at idle. It is carried out for 6 hours.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that Rosatom expects the return of funds frozen in JPMorgan bank for the construction of the Akkuyu NPP.
