The mine defense ships "Anatoly Shlemov" and "Pyotr Ilyichev" of Project 12700 "Alexandrit" conducted exercises off the coast of Kamchatka. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Defense.
The crews of the minesweepers practiced actions to guide ships through an area with a simulated mine threat. In particular, "Anatoly Shlemov" conducted a control reconnaissance search for mines, followed by their identification and destruction.
Three Project 12700 naval minesweepers – "Yakov Balyaev", "Anatoly Shlemov" and "Pyotr Ilyichev" – are serving in Kamchatka as part of the grouping of Troops and Forces in the northeast of Russia.
The ships have a unique, the world's largest hull made of solid fiberglass. The material allows for trawling magnetic mines. In addition, the Project 12700 minesweepers are equipped with a number of modern mine search and neutralization systems, including robotic devices.
