State Duma deputies considered in the first reading a bill toughening penalties for improper road maintenance. They may increase to 600 thousand rubles, and in the event of an accident with damage to health - up to 1 million rubles. Currently, fines are 20-30 thousand rubles for officials and 200-300 thousand for legal entities.
The authors of the bill believe that changes to Article 12.34 of the Code of Administrative Offenses are needed due to the increase in the number of accidents caused by untimely road repairs. They refer to the data of the traffic police, pointing to the increase in accidents.
The government of the Russian Federation doubts the arguments of the deputies. The materials of the bill do not contain enough information to increase fines, according to the review of the document. The Cabinet is not against the amendments, but requires their revision.
