Russian "Bayon" smartphone production to be set up at Samsung plant in Kaluga

Key boards and components will have to be imported from other countries

Electronics distributor VVP Group plans to start producing smartphones under its own brand "Bayon" at a leased Samsung plant in Kaluga. The company also plans to use South Korean facilities for contract assembly of smartphones of other brands.

In early 2024, VVP Group leased Samsung's facilities for the production of televisions and washing machines. Now the company has registered a branch of OP LLC "Bayon" at the address of the Samsung plant in the Kaluga region. In the summer of 2023, LLC "Bayon" received certificates for the import of telephone sets of its own production, and in 2024 it registered the Metame trademark.

According to Kirill Skvortsov, Director of Strategic Development at contract TV manufacturer STI Group, the Samsung plant in Kaluga can be converted for assembling finished devices with minimal costs. However, key components and boards will still have to be imported.

Earlier www1.ru reported that a new plant for the production of heating and power supply systems was launched in Korolev.
