Employees of the "Northern Production Association" (SPO) "Arktika" have equipped the nuclear icebreakers "Arktika", "Sibir", "Ural", and "50 Let Pobedy" with an onboard automated information and measurement system and ice monitoring systems based on UAVs. This was reported by the press service of the "United Shipbuilding Corporation" (USC).
The work was carried out on the territory of FSUE "Atomflot" in Murmansk and in the waters of the Northern Sea Route. Specialists from SPO "Arktika" worked in temperatures down to -40℃, gusty winds, and rolling. They moved between ships on a crane with a special cradle at a height of over 15 m.
With the help of the new equipment, it is possible to analyze:
- ice thickness, snow, tortuosity
- ice compression
These data are transmitted to coastal analytical systems.
The concept of placing radar equipment on UAVs allows planning ship routes, minimizing the risks of emergency situations even in the absence of data from satellites.
