State Duma May Allow Production of Non-Original Spare Parts for Repairing Foreign Aircraft

The bill has already been approved in the first reading

The State Duma has approved in the first reading a bill allowing domestic industrial enterprises to produce non-original spare parts for aircraft. Parliamentarians propose to amend the Air Code.

The authors of the bill are the head of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy, Andrey Kutepov, and his deputy, Murat Khapsirokov.

The explanatory note states that the document was developed in order to develop domestic production of alternative components for civil aviation equipment (RMA), which are necessary to replace original consumables used in the repair of foreign components.

Given that the shortage of foreign-made spare parts in the context of anti-Russian sanctions and restrictions imposed by Western suppliers will not be eliminated in the near future, it can be concluded that the market for alternative spare parts will actively develop in the Russian Federation. However, if the regulatory framework "catches up" with the actual needs of the industry, there is a high probability that instead of a civilized market for RMA components, carriers will face a gray market of non-authentic components.
