"Rostelecom" estimated the damage from the cable break in the Baltic Sea at tens of millions of rubles

The company stated that the nature of the cable damage "raises many questions"

"Rostelecom" has completed restoration work on the underwater cable in the Baltic Sea, damaged by the anchor of a foreign vessel.

The damage became known on February 8. On the same day, the Russian vessel "Sivuch" began repairs.

The cable connects Kingisepp with Kaliningrad. Restoration work was carried out in "extremely cramped" conditions in order not to damage someone else's underwater infrastructure.

President of Rostelecom Mikhail Oseevsky said that the damage from the accident amounted to several tens of millions of rubles. He also stressed that the nature of the damage "raises many questions" - the damaged sections of the cable were at a distance of 40 km from each other.

At the end of last year, a series of incidents occurred in the Baltic Sea related to damage to underwater cables. In November, a cable break was recorded between Sweden and Lithuania. In December, the EstLink2 lines between Finland and Estonia were damaged, as well as four more telecommunications cables connecting Finland with Estonia and Germany.
