Russia Develops New "Soloist" Guided Munition with Ramjet Engine

Combat range up to 10 km

A new "Soloist" guided munition with a ramjet engine has been developed for the Russian military. The projectile is controlled using FPV drone goggles.

In tactical terms, the "Soloist" complex will complement mortar and anti-tank missile systems in the armament of company groups. When the operation of ATGMs is difficult due to the terrain, because it requires a direct line of sight. Or when, in the case of a mortar, we cannot adjust it. The "Soloist", with its installed course camera, allows for flight correction during free fall.

Intelligence and combined arms units are showing interest in the product. Although the developers say that they initially viewed the complex primarily as a means of reinforcement when defending strongholds.

We have not encountered such portable products for infantry. In terms of price, it can be classified as a disposable grenade launcher; in essence, it is a consumable, quite massive, produced in hundreds of thousands.

The firing range of the "Soloist" is 10 km, which exceeds all existing anti-tank missile systems and approaches 120-mm mortars. The combat load of the ammunition is grenade launcher rounds from RPG-7 and SPG-9. They are not only mass-produced, but also allow the use of factory types of warheads for various purposes: cumulative, fragmentation, thermobaric.

Characteristics of the "Soloist" ammunition:

  • Launcher - tube
  • Flight altitude - up to 2 km
  • Average speed on a ballistic trajectory - 500 km/h
  • Projectile length - 1200 mm
