The new Russian "Product 177S" engine for equipping multi-purpose fighters of generations 4++ and 5, corresponds to French and American analogs, and in some characteristics surpasses them. This was announced by Alexey Nesterenko, Deputy General Director of the United Engine Corporation (UEC, part of Rostec) for Sales and Service.
In terms of its characteristics, "Product 177S" is competitive with analogs of French and American production.
The"Product 177S" engine was presented on the sidelines of the Aero India air show in Bangalore. According to Nesterenko, long-standing fruitful ties with Indian colleagues will contribute to the development of cooperation, including on this engine.
The 177S engine belongs to the fifth generation, and it can be installed both on aircraft with power plants of the previous generation without making changes to the design, and on aircraft of the new generation.
In terms of technical characteristics and weight and size, the engine corresponds to the previous generation. At the same time, its thrust has been increased - 14.5 tons, which is 2 tons more than the previous generation. The engine's time between overhauls is 1 500 hours, and the assigned resource is 6 000 hours.
