Russia may soon launch the Iskander-1000 operational-tactical missile system (OTRK) into serial production. Military analyst Evgeny Damanцев discussed the characteristics of the newest high-precision strike system.
According to him, the 9М723-1 series missiles will retain their classic layout but will increase the solid propellant charge by 10-15%, which will increase the operating time of the product.
The new solid-propellant rocket engine will provide the quasi-ballistic missile with a speed of up to 2700-3100 m/s, which is comparable to the Kh-47M2 Kinzhal. The munition will deliver a high-explosive fragmentation or cluster payload weighing up to 300-350 kg to a distance of about 1000 km and 200-230 kg to 1300 km with an apogee of about 120-130 km.
In addition, the missile will have tail blocks of gas-dynamic control and aerodynamic rudders for maneuvering in the stratosphere and troposphere with available overloads of up to 230 units. The missile will be equipped with a GLONASS/GPS-correction module "Комета-Р8".
