Scientists at RTU MIREA have developed a modular system for a vertical "smart farm" based on artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. This increased productivity by 30%.
One of the authors of the project, Ivan Gusarov, explained that the system is configured separately for each shelf of the vertical farm. The hardware and software complex collects data from sensors on air condition, temperature, lighting, soil composition and plant development stage.
The data is processed by an artificial intelligence system that adjusts growing conditions, reducing ripening time and improving crop quality.
The system includes devices:
- for the delivery of water and fertilizers
- for controlling temperature, light and humidity
The development is relevant for farmers who grow crops in harsh climates with a shortage of fertile soil.
