Lada Iskra racing version specifications revealed: the car received a lightweight body and an upgraded engine

The 1.8-liter engine with a torque of 200 Nm will make the Lada Iskra racing version not only fast, but also torquey

AvtoVAZ will present the racing version of the Lada Iskra sedan at the 27th Race of Champions on January 25. The competition will be held at the manufacturer's test site in Sosnovka, according to journalist Maxim Kadakov.

The Iskra modification for racing was developed in compliance with all the principles of preparing Lada cars for sports competitions on ice. The body was lightened and equipped with a welded safety cage. The suspension was equipped with special shock absorbers, stiffer springs, and spherical hinges were used in the shock absorber mounts and suspension arms instead of silent blocks.

The largest number of modifications were made to the power unit. The engine capacity was increased from 1.6 liters to 1.8 liters by using an original crankshaft that increases the piston stroke. Both the crankshaft itself and the connecting rods were reinforced.

In addition, AvtoVAZ modernized the intake and exhaust systems, as well as the engine controller. All this made it possible to obtain a power of 173 hp and a torque of 200 Nm. At the same time, 150 Nm is reached already at 2500 rpm, which makes the car not only fast, but also torquey.

The transmission used a sequential gear shifting mechanism, a self-locking inter-wheel differential and drives made of high-strength steel. The front brakes remained standard from Iskra, the rear brakes from Vesta, and the car received a new brake force distribution system.
