The crew of the Tornado-S multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) is capable of covering an area of 12 football fields with a single salvo. The capabilities of the complex were revealed by the Rostec State Corporation.
Specialists are constantly improving the MLRS, taking into account combat experience, increasing combat power, accuracy and security. The vehicle implements functions of autonomous topographic referencing and orientation on the ground.
Independent navigation, long range and high accuracy allow the Tornado-S to operate alone, without escort, unleashing an accurate "fiery rain" on the enemy. The crew practically does not leave the vehicle, does not go out into the open and has the ability to act very quickly. The speed of the Tornado does not allow the enemy to quickly counter its firepower, does not give him time to recover.
The Tornado-S received an automated fire control system and launch preparation equipment. Thanks to this, the crew promptly adjusts the projectiles to various objects.
When using guided rockets, it is also possible to hit several different targets with high accuracy with one salvo from a launcher, spaced in range and direction.
The Tornado-S is a deeply modernized version of the Smerch MLRS. Improvements have been made to ammunition, communications and control equipment. As a result, the developers managed to significantly increase the firing range, accuracy and firepower of this type of MLRS.
The complex has 12 guides for 300-mm rockets. At the same time, the system is capable of hitting targets at a significantly greater range than the Smerch: 120 km versus 70-90 km. The crew is armed with, among other things, guided munitions.
