Power unit No. 7 was shut down at the Novovoronezh NPP on January 1. The reason for disconnecting from the network under the action of automation is repair work on electrical equipment.
The system worked as intended in accordance with the design algorithms. There are no violations of the limits and conditions of safe operation. The radiation background in the area of the NPP corresponds to the values of the natural background in the Voronezh region.
Currently, power units No. 4, 5, 6 are operating at the facility with a total load of 2191 MW.
The Novovoronezh NPP is the largest electricity producer in the Voronezh region, and is part of the branch of "Concern Rosenergoatom" JSC, the Electric Power Division of "Rosatom". It fully provides the region's electricity needs and about 90% of the city of Novovoronezh's heat needs. Before the decommissioning of power unit No. 7, four power units operated as part of the NPP.
Power unit No. 7 was put into commercial operation on October 31, 2019. It is equipped with a VVER-1200 reactor with a capacity of 1200 MW, combining active and passive safety systems, making the NPP as resistant as possible to external and internal influences. In particular, a passive heat removal system through steam generators is used, which, in the event of a prolonged power outage, will provide long-term heat removal from the reactor core to the atmosphere, and a "melt trap" to localize the melt of the nuclear reactor core. The reactor has a service life of 60 years with the possibility of extension.
