Russian Intercoms to be Connected to Emergency Alert Systems

Russian intercoms will soon be included in the public alert system.

They are already transmitting emergency messages to residents of the Kursk, Belgorod, and Bryansk regions, and alerts via intercoms have also been experimentally carried out in the Perm Territory. This was announced in an interview with RIA "Novosti" by the head of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, Alexander Kurenkov, adding that intercoms will become part of the alert system, but not its main element.

Part of it — yes. But they will not replace the main means of the alert system: the telecommunications network, radio and television broadcasting.
Alexander Kurenkov, Head of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations

Currently, in emergency situations, public alerts in the country are mainly carried out through SMS mailings, loudspeakers, and vehicles with screens in crowded places. Connecting intercoms will help warn more people about the danger. The fact is that not all Russians now have televisions or radios at home, and their mobile phones may be discharged or on silent mode at the time of the alert.
