The State Duma has been asked to consider banning the sale of pyrotechnic products online. The initiative was put forward by deputies from the "A Just Russia — For Truth" party.
Today, online pyrotechnics trading is practically uncontrolled by the state, which has established perfectly understandable and justified restrictions. Anyone, including a child, can buy anything they want.
Deputies assure that we observe the consequences of such permissiveness every year during the New Year holidays, when accidents occur due to the improper use of firecrackers and fireworks. Among the victims are many children who have gained access to such dangerous toys.
Dmitry Gusev, First Deputy Head of the faction, noted the importance of a responsible approach to the purchase of pyrotechnic products. Currently, they can be purchased without personal interaction with the seller, including through online stores with delivery, which excludes checking the buyer's age.
If the bill is passed, firecrackers and fireworks can only be purchased in specialized stores that sell goods "hand-to-hand".
In major Russian cities, the number of stores selling pyrotechnic products has decreased by an average of 22% since the beginning of 2024. The exceptions were Moscow, St. Petersburg and Omsk. This is due to the difficulties faced by this segment. First, it was affected by the pandemic, and then by the introduction of a ban on the use of fireworks in some regions. However, demand for such products is growing before the New Year.
