Navio, formerly known as SberAutoTech, announced the debut of its unmanned tractor L5 at the AI Journey conference on December 11. The tractor, designed for public roads, is fully autonomous and has no driver's cab.
The L5 tractor meets the fifth level of autonomy (L5), which means full automation of all functions, including object recognition, lane keeping, lane changes, speed and distance control. This makes it one of the most advanced vehicles on the market, comparable to similar models such as the Tesla Semi.
Navio emphasizes that such tractors will be able to solve the problem of driver shortage, increase the efficiency of cargo transportation and reduce fuel consumption through aerodynamic optimization and the use of predictive control algorithms.
The company has been developing autonomous driving technologies since 2020. In September 2024, unmanned trucks were successfully tested on the M-11 Neva highway, which became an important stage in the development of autonomous transport in Russia.
