The likely purchase by Algeria of Russian fifth-generation multirole Su-57 fighters will pose a serious threat to NATO. This is stated in an article by the American publication The National Interest (TNI).
Columnist Peter Suciu noted that Algeria already buys almost three-quarters of its weapons from Russia. According to the author, Algeria needs the Su-57 to counter Morocco, which previously adopted American F-16 fighters.
More important is what this could mean for NATO, especially France, Spain and Portugal. None of these countries currently operate American fifth-generation F-35 fighters.
Journalists emphasized that the aircraft in service with Spain and France (Typhoon and Rafale, respectively) are inferior in performance to the Russian Su-57.
For the first time among serial Russian fighters, the Su-57's weapons can be placed in an internal compartment - air-to-surface and air-to-air missiles, guided and conventional bombs.
Earlier www1.ru reported that the Russian Iskander destroyed the Grom OTRK on the front line for the first time, footage of a precise hit appeared.
