Russian cards of the Chinese payment system UnionPay, issued by Gazprombank, have ceased to be accepted for service in Turkish banks.
According to TASS, when trying to use such cards in ATMs in Ankara and Istanbul, a warning appears about a technical error or a message that the card is not serviced by this bank.
Similar problems affect both corporate and individual UnionPay cards of Gazprombank. The refusal to service comes from state and private Turkish banks, including financial institutions with foreign participation. Often, ATM screens indicate that transactions are impossible due to the lack of permits for their execution.
Similar difficulties arise in other countries as well. Thus, a TASS correspondent confirmed that UnionPay cards from Gazprombank also ceased to be serviced in Thai banks.
The restrictions coincided with the introduction of a new package of anti-Russian sanctions, announced by the United States on November 21. Gazprombank, which for a long time remained a channel for European countries to pay for Russian gas supplies, was also sanctioned.
