The Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant has developed and patented a new steering wheel design. Information about it appeared in the open database of the Federal Institute of Industrial Property on November 21.
The steering wheel was developed specifically for the updated version of the UAZ "Patriot" SUV. The steering wheel has been reduced in size, and its lower part has become more compact. Thickenings have appeared in the places where the driver holds the steering wheel, and an airbag has also been installed.
The patent images do not show any controls for the on-board electronics. It is likely that the image shows the steering wheel of the car in the standard configuration.
A source from "Rossiyskaya Gazeta" reported that cars with an updated steering wheel will appear in the summer.
It is assumed that the updated version of the UAZ "Patriot" will feature LED headlights. In addition, changes will be made to the design of the front panel and center tunnel.
But the most important innovation is the appearance of a two-liter diesel engine under the hood, which is practically no different from the one produced at the motor plant of the company "Sollers" in Alabuga and installed on Sollers cars.
As a reminder, the SUV will be equipped with a more powerful 2.7-liter gasoline engine.
During the modernization, the UAZ "Patriot" will receive not only a new diesel engine, but also two new gearboxes: a six-speed manual and a completely new six-speed automatic.
