Eight powerful class M flares recorded on the Sun

Specialists recorded them on November 18 of this year

Eight powerful class M flares occurred on the Sun on November 18, 2024. This was reported by the Institute of Applied Geophysics (IPG).

The first flare was recorded at 08:22 Moscow time. The most powerful of them — M3.7 — was noted at 15:53 Moscow time.

An M1.0 flare (S07E78) lasting 14 minutes was recorded in the X-ray range.

Specialists also recorded disruptions in shortwave radio communications in seven cases of the latest flares.

Flares are often accompanied by emissions of solar plasma. When they reach Earth, they can provoke magnetic storms. Depending on the power of X-ray radiation, solar flares are divided into five classes — A, B, C, M, and X.
