The Ministry of Digital Development is in negotiations with representatives of the IT industry to create a consortium for the development of a Russian analog of the Android mobile operating system, based on open source code (AOSP). This was announced by the head of the department, Maksut Shadayev.
Regarding the operating system, we currently have a non-linear, hybrid approach. We assume that these tablets will run two operating systems: "Aurora" — for performing production tasks, that is, for teachers to keep electronic journals, diaries, and work with electronic content — on "Aurora" as a secure operating system.
The Ministry of Digital Development is also working on creating an analog of the Android operating system based on AOSP. This system will be second in importance and is intended for everyday use, without requiring the adaptation of a large number of mobile applications.
According to Shadayev, the Russian Android analog will be one of two operating systems that will be used in tablets for teachers and doctors.
The minister did not specify which organizations are in negotiations and who could become a member of the consortium. In his opinion, this decision will ensure a high level of personal data security and reliable application operation, as well as provide teachers and doctors with access to useful applications for Android.
Earlier, a Russian senator named the pros and cons of the "Aurora" OS. Thanks to the operating system, the devices surpass foreign counterparts in ensuring the security of confidential data. However, the number of applications that can be installed is limited.
Smartphones, laptops, and tablets running the Russian "Aurora" OS 5th generation have already begun to enter the market. The Russian application store RuStore is already installed on them, which contains games and applications from developers from more than 40 countries.
