The United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) may acquire the Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex, located in the Primorsky Territory. Large-capacity civilian vessels will be assembled there.
According to journalists, in October, the head of Rosneft, Igor Sechin, appealed to President Vladimir Putin with a proposal for USC to receive Zvezda at the cost of construction. The funds received from the sale of the complex are planned to be spent on the development of the Tomtor rare earth metals deposit.
The press service of Rosneft confirmed negotiations with VTB regarding the transaction. Experts believe that the consolidation of assets in the region will positively affect the shipbuilding industry.
Against the backdrop of information about the possible sale of the shipbuilding complex, shares of the Zvezda company, which produces diesel engines, rose on the Moscow Exchange. Investors likely confused the companies. Experts explain the rise in the shares of the St. Petersburg company by this.
At the same time, analysts do not rule out that this may be a speculative transaction, since the shares of the enterprise from the Northern capital have been growing in a similar way more than once.
