It lasted 32 minutes

Scientists have recorded a flare of the highest class X on the Sun. Its duration was 32 minutes.

On November 6 at 16:40 Moscow time, an X2.4 flare was recorded in the X-ray range in the group of spots 3883 (S08E13).

This is the second highest class flare in November. In addition, six class M flares occurred on the Sun on Wednesday. The most powerful of them, class M5.9, was recorded at approximately 12:00 Moscow time and lasted six minutes.

The day before, nine powerful class M flares occurred on the Sun. Six of them were accompanied by disruption of shortwave radio communications.

Solar flares are processes in which a colossal amount of energy is released in the form of light, heat, and movement in the star's atmosphere. These phenomena last only a few minutes, but during this time, energy is released, the volume of which can reach billions of megatons in TNT equivalent.

The most powerful are considered to be class X flares. Class M and C flares, although less intense, are still significant phenomena.
