The State Atomic Energy Corporation (Rosatom) announced the shutdown of the first unit of the Balakovo Nuclear Power Plant for scheduled maintenance. It is expected that the nuclear scientists will also modernize the equipment at the facility.
The corporation's press service announced plans to carry out 22 modernization works. Employees will replace the generator stator, repair the turbogenerator shaft line and low-pressure cylinder, and replace the steam generator separator.
The Balakovo Nuclear Power Plant is located 145 km from Saratov. It is one of the largest nuclear power plants in the country in terms of electricity generation — more than 30 billion kWh per year. The station was put into operation in 1985.
