In late September, Kaspersky forcibly replaced its UltraAV antivirus on the computers of about a million Americans after the US government banned its use. This caused discontent, as many users did not consent to the change.
Despite the ban, some Americans continue to use Kaspersky, circumventing restrictions with licenses purchased before the ban, or using VPN services to access updates. Users claim that the antivirus is still effective and they do not trust the accusations of espionage.
Kaspersky has not commented on the situation. Some users report that they are finding ways to receive updates by adding servers outside the US or using international licenses. Users plan to switch to other antiviruses if their current licenses expire.
