В России за скрытые номера на автомобиле теперь лишают прав на полтора года

President Vladimir Putin has signed a law that significantly increases the penalties for those who attempt to obscure their license plates.

Russia has toughened the penalty for using devices to conceal car license plates. The corresponding amendments to federal legislation were signed today, October 14, by President Vladimir Putin. The new laws are effective from the moment of signing.

According to the amendments, driving a car with license plates "equipped with devices that prevent their identification or allow them to be modified or concealed" will now result in the driver's license being revoked.

If the violation is recorded for the first time, the device for concealing license plates will be confiscated, and the driver will be deprived of their license for a period of one to one and a half years. If the driver is caught a second time driving a car without license plates or with concealed license plates, their license will be revoked for up to one and a half years.

Previously, driving with concealed license plates or without license plates in Russia was punishable by a fine of 5,000 rubles or revocation of the driver's license for a period of one to three months.
