A Russian Su-57 fighter accidentally shot down the latest domestic reconnaissance and strike UAV S-70 "Okhotnik-B" over enemy territory with a highly maneuverable R-74M guided missile launched from an internal weapons bay. The footage appeared on social media.
The video shows how a high-speed missile "catches up" with the drone high in the air and destroys it. Military expert Evgeny Damantsev explained that the cause of the incident was a failure of the tactical information exchange and target allocation channel, operating in the frequency range from 960 to 1250 MHz.
After reprogramming the weapons control system, the S-70 "Okhotnik-B" reconnaissance and strike UAV will regain its previous jam-resistant and crypto-protected tactical information exchange modules.
These UAVs can be used as "unmanned wingmen" and conduct long-range air combat using R-77-1 missiles based on target designation from the N036 Belka airborne radars of the 5th generation Su-57 fighters.
"Okhotnik" is a heavy reconnaissance and strike unmanned bomber developed according to the "flying wing" scheme. Weight - 20 tons, wingspan - 19 m, length - 14 m. Its design uses many composite materials that have replaced aluminum alloys. This makes the structure lighter and also makes it difficult to detect the "Okhotnik" by radar.
Earlier www1.ru reported that an improved BTR-82A with enhanced armor protection has been developed in Russia. The vehicle is armed with a 2A72 30 mm caliber cannon and can withstand the impact of B-32 armor-piercing bullets.
