Egypt hopes Stinger will help strengthen the country's defense

The United States has approved the sale of 720 missiles for the Stinger man-portable air defense system (MANPADS) to Egypt. The contract is estimated at $740 million. This is Egypt's response to the threat from Ethiopia, which has Soviet Su-27 fourth-generation all-weather heavy fighters. This is reported by Bulgarian Military.

Stinger MANPADS missiles intercept targets at low altitudes. This is crucial for countering Su-27 fighters.

In addition to tensions with Ethiopia, Egypt has strained relations with Libya and Sudan. The Libyan Air Force is armed with MiG-23 and MiG-29 aircraft, and Sudan with Su-25, MiG-21.
