Russian Railways intends to launch unmanned trains by 2030

The first steps towards this technology have been taken on the MCC

This was announced by Oleg Belozerov, General Director, Chairman of the Board of Russian Railways, at the international forum of digital technologies in transport and logistics "Digital Transportation-2024", answering a question about the transition to railway unmanned driving.

It already exists, we are teaching trains. We are teaching them on the MCC, it was the most difficult thing to teach them on the MCC. The only thing the driver does is open and close the doors.
Oleg Belozerov, General Director, Chairman of the Board of Russian Railways

He noted that now the driver is switching to operator mode. Partial use of robotization is also planned.

I think that in 8-10 years it will be possible to make a train with unmanned control. A person will monitor the train, and I think that by 2030 this can be done.

He also noted that digitalization requires special data storage. According to Belozerov, the amount of information in Russian Railways is 39 petabytes, 17 thousand business terms and 48 indicators are used. For its storage and application, a domestic analogue was developed, which is used by more than 160 thousand people, and Russian Railways is ready to share this experience in working with big data.
