The research vessel "Akademik Nikolay Strakhov" is returning to Murmansk. The multifunctional rescue vessel "Murman" arrived at the vessel's anchorage area and took it in tow.
After discussing the details of the upcoming operation with the captain of the "Murman", it was decided to wait for more favorable weather conditions and evacuate the scientific staff.
Thanks to the coordinated actions of the crew of both vessels, the cable was successfully secured in harsh sea conditions, and already at 20:00 the convoy began moving towards the port of Murmansk. At the moment, the speed of the vessel is 4-5 knots.
The expedition of the research vessel "Akademik Nikolay Strakhov" was aimed at conducting comprehensive research in the field of geology, geophysics, geomorphology and hydrophysics in the waters of the Barents and Kara Seas, as well as the Laptev Sea.
However, on the eighth day of the expedition, an unforeseen situation occurred - the main engine of the vessel failed. "Akademik Nikolay Strakhov" was forced to anchor in the Kara Sea, 20 miles northeast of Bely Island. There were 40 people on board the vessel: the captain, 27 crew members and 12 members of the scientific group.
