Despite the sanctions pressure, the Akkuyu NPP is planned to be completed. This was announced by the Russian Ambassador to Ankara, Alexei Yerkhov.
The West's unilateral illegitimate sanctions, unfortunately, negatively affect the pace and timing of the project, which is designed to become an important element in strengthening your country's energy security. But despite everything, I want to assure you that the project will be implemented and Turkey will have access to a stable source of clean electricity for many years to come.
It is worth noting that on September 11 of this year, the head of the Turkish Ministry of Energy, Alparslan Bayraktar, announced the need to take measures against the German company Siemens. Problems arose with the supply of equipment for the Akkuyu NPP.
A Siemens representative noted that the company had not been able to obtain export permits for the supply of equipment throughout the year.
The first power unit of the Akkuyu NPP is scheduled to be launched in 2025.
