At the Perm National Research Polytechnic University (PNRPU), glass has been developed from the product of acid mine drainage treatment. This was reported in the press service of the university.
The development speeds up the process of creating glass.
As a result, the material used affects the composition, changes the viscosity, and increases the mixing of the glass melt due to chemical reactions. It generally significantly speeds up the melting process and also reduces the temperature at which the clarification and homogenization of the glass are completed by 20-50 degrees Celsius.
To improve transparency and achieve glass homogeneity, scientists obtained a mixture of salts (NH4) 2 SO4 and Li2CO3. This made it possible to significantly speed up the melting process of silicate glasses. Specialists also used sediment from the treatment of acidic mine waters, which will reduce environmental pollution.
The glass made in this way has increased permeability to ultraviolet rays, resistance to alkalis, acids, and cracking, as well as increased strength by 1.5-2 times.
The new material can be used in glassmaking year-round in any region of the country.
Earlier www1.ru reported that glazing for Russian MS-21 and SJ-100 aircraft will be produced even faster.
