Russian Presidential Aide and Head of the Maritime Board Nikolai Patrushev stated that the modernization rate of the Russian fleet significantly lags behind modern requirements.
He emphasized that due to the insufficient renewal of the fleet, domestic companies are losing out in the transportation of strategic cargo. As a result, unfriendly countries have effectively displaced Russian transport companies from the export and import transportation market, including oil, petroleum products, and grain.
The pace of the Russian fleet renewal does not meet today's requirements. For many years, the volume of cargo transported by ships under the Russian flag has remained unacceptably low, primarily due to the shortage of domestic vessels.
Patrushev pointed out the need to develop and restore competencies in shipbuilding and ship repair, as well as in the production of ship equipment and special machinery.
He emphasized that the industry should be brought to a new technological level using unified software and hardware solutions. For the effective operation of shipbuilding enterprises, it is necessary not only to eliminate the personnel shortage but also to actively train young specialists.
