Russian military personnel on the front line are using Albatross M5 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles for reconnaissance purposes. Low-visibility UAVs successfully perform the functions of a scout and spotter for ground-based weapons with the ability to adjust fire.
The drone was built on the principle of a "flying wing" with a wingspan of 3.3 m on an electric motor. Cruising speed is 72 km/h, maximum flight time is 4.5 hours, working altitude range is from 80 to 1000 m, aerial photography area per flight is up to 20 km², maximum flight altitude is at least 5000 m.
The Albatross takes off from a catapult and lands in semi-automatic mode using a parachute system. Deployment time is 10 minutes, dimensions of the take-off/landing site are 100x100 m. The take-off weight of the aircraft is 15 kg. The maximum payload weight is up to 5 kg.
The device is capable of carrying three types of such payload on board - a thermal imager, a high-resolution camera and a video camera.
