Subscribers of Over 135 Telecom Operators Begin Terminating Contracts Due to YouTube Slowdown

Some Providers Suggest Russians Complain to Roskomnadzor About YouTube Slowdown

Problems with access to YouTube have sparked a wave of discontent among users, leading to mass terminations of contracts with regional telecom operators in Russia. This is reported by the newspaper "Kommersant".

Associations representing the interests of more than 135 regional operators have appealed to the Ministry of Digital Development and Roskomnadzor to clarify the reasons for the slowdown of these services and the "uneven degradation" of their functioning among different operators.

The problems began on August 1, when traffic from Google Global Cache servers sharply decreased to 30% of the July level. It is assumed that this is due to the operation of technical means of countering threats (TSPU) installed on the networks of operators under the law on sovereign Runet. The lack of official statements from state bodies exacerbates the situation: users blame providers for the problems, which leads to mass contract terminations.

Regional operators point out that large mobile operators may experience less noticeable YouTube problems due to the peculiarities of network construction. In the regions, especially in small settlements, the situation may worsen, causing additional subscriber dissatisfaction.

Associations are asking state bodies to provide clarifications and take measures to stabilize the situation in order to reduce customer churn and restore user confidence.

Some providers, in turn, have begun to suggest that Russians complain about the YouTube slowdown directly to Roskomnadzor:
