Specialists of the Perm National Research Polytechnic University (PNRPU) have developed a method to reduce the time and cost of repairing gas turbine units (GTU). This was reported by the press service of the university.
The essence of the method is to clean the nozzle blade of the GTU engine with a solution of sulfuric and orthophosphoric acids in an autoclave.
The cleaning was divided into two stages. First, the sample was placed in an autoclave with an aqueous solution of sulfuric and orthophosphoric acids of various concentrations (5%; 7.5%; 10%). It was cleaned at a temperature of 230 °C for one hour.
In the second stage, the scientists removed the remaining oxide film using ultrasonic treatment in distilled water for 30 minutes. An electronic scanning microscope was used to analyze the surface of the sample.
After cleaning with a 10% solution, the surface of the sample was completely cleared of metal oxides. The exfoliated film did not dissolve in the mixture. This means that the acids used primarily corrode the layer of the blade alloy surface located under the oxide film, and leave the film itself more or less intact.
The study showed that the use of a 10% acid solution will help speed up repairs, reduce resource costs and increase economic benefits in the production of blades.
Earlier www1.ru reported that an innovative vehicle is being developed in Perm.
