Scared of sanctions: Russian-founded online store builder Ecwid is leaving Russia

The service, acquired by Canadian company Lightspeed, is curtailing operations in a major market

The online store builder Ecwid, created by Russian Ruslan Fazlyev, is leaving the Russian market due to US sanctions. The company has warned its customers about this.

The Ecwid administration stated that from September 9, users in Russia will not be able to log into the site control panel.

It is difficult for us to share this news with you, especially given the history of Ecwid's origin. Ecwid was created in Russia to help people sell online around the world.

The service administration expressed regret at losing its customers. On September 12, a ban on the supply of IT consulting, IT support, and cloud services to "any person in the Russian Federation" comes into force in the United States.

Ecwid was founded in Russia in 2009. In 2021, it was acquired by the Canadian company Lightspeed. The deal amounted to $500 million.
