"Russian Space Systems" Started Production of New Power Amplifiers for "Yamals", "Expresses", and "Luchas"

Traveling Wave Tube Power Amplifiers Will Be Able to Last 15 Years in Earth Orbit

The holding company "Russian Space Systems" (RKS) announced that it has established, together with the radio-electronic industry enterprises, serial production of traveling wave tube (TWT) power amplifiers of its own design. This equipment will be installed on promising geostationary domestic spacecraft of the "Yamal", "Express" and "Luch" systems.

The device consists of a preamplifier, a linearizer, a power supply unit, and a TWT. The traveling wave tube uses the interaction of a traveling electromagnetic wave and an electron beam to generate and amplify microwave electromagnetic oscillations.

The traveling wave tube amplifier is needed to amplify the signal received by the spacecraft from the transmitting ground stations and its transmission to other stations included in the satellite system. It is installed in the target equipment of satellites for digital television broadcasting, Internet access, fixed and mobile communications.

According to RKS, the weight of the device is 4 kg. It will be able to operate in orbit for up to 15 years.

Earlier, "Roselectronics" spoke about its innovative traveling wave tube for broadband Internet satellites "Express-RV". Its serial sample will be shown for the first time as part of the united exposition of the "Roselectronics" holding at the "Army-2024" forum in the Patriot Exhibition Center from August 12 to 14, 2024.
