Denis Matveev left the Roscosmos cosmonaut corps

According to Roscosmos, Matveev is not abandoning space. He will continue his activities at the Yu. A. Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center, preparing cosmonauts for flights.

Roscosmos, the management and employees of the CTC, and colleagues in the corps thank Denis Matveev for his significant contribution to manned domestic cosmonautics, for his many years of work at the Center, and are confident that he will be able to apply his experience as a mentor to cosmonauts preparing for new flights.

Denis Matveev is the 126th cosmonaut of the Russian Federation. He was enrolled in the cosmonaut corps in 2010. He has one space flight under his belt: from March 18 to September 29, 2022. During the mission, the cosmonaut made four spacewalks, spending a total of 26 hours and 8 minutes.

On Earth, Matveev was involved in popularizing science, repeatedly giving lectures to young people. In May 2024, he received the Star of Hero of Russia from the hands of President Vladimir Putin.

Currently, there are 25 people left in the Roscosmos active cosmonaut corps. Ten of them have never left Earth. In May 2024, the space family was replenished. Following the results of the fourth open selection, Anastasia Burchuladze, Elchin Vakhidov, Vladimir Vorozhko, and Alexander Zherebtsov were selected for training in the cosmonaut corps.

It is known that on August 18, Alexander Gorbunov will go to the ISS on board the Crew Dragon under the cross-flight agreement between Roscosmos and NASA. He will be accompanied by astronauts Zena Cardman, Nick Hague, and Stephanie Wilson.

And in September, the Russian Soyuz MS-26 will launch from Baikonur. Under the same cross-flight agreement, it will deliver an international crew to orbit: Roscosmos cosmonauts Alexey Ovchinin and Ivan Wagner, and NASA astronaut Donald Pettit.
