The Russian coastal defense missile system "Bal" was developed as a successor to the Soviet systems "Redut" or "Rubezh". It was adopted by the military in 2008.
In the "Bal" coastal defense system, anti-ship cruise missiles Kh-35 (3M24) are used. The system is based on a heavy, highly mobile MZKT-7930 chassis with an 8x8 configuration and carries 8 cylindrical containers with anti-ship cruise missiles Kh-35.
Centralized fire control ensures optimal target distribution of missiles with simultaneous guidance to 6 targets at once when controlled from one command post. In addition, the presence of passive and active radar detection channels allows for a flexible strategy for generating target designation data.
The "Bal" missile system will reliably protect the country's coast and offshore marine platforms from attacks from the sea.
Tactical and technical characteristics of the "Bal" coastal defense missile system:
- Maximum firing range — 260 km
- Missile flight speed — 0.85 m
- Deployment time at the launch position — 10 m
Target detection range:
- active radar — up to 100 km
- passive radar — up to 450 km
