Electricity generation at Akkuyu NPP under construction by Rosatom State Corporation to begin within a year

Turkish Ministry of Energy: all four power units of the station will be launched by 2028

Turkish authorities plan to start electricity production at the Akkuyu NPP (Mersin Province) within a year, said Yusuf Ceylan, Head of the Department of Nuclear Energy and International Projects of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic. The nuclear facility is being built by specialists from Rosatom State Corporation.

The first power unit is scheduled to be commissioned in 2025. However, the authorities are trying to move this date forward. October 29 was mentioned among the possible launch dates.

Four power units with VVER generation III+ reactors from Rosatom State Corporation will be installed at the Akkuyu NPP. The capacity of each power unit is 1,200 MW.
